Mowinckel on shooting range in the Olympic premiere – champion Shiffrin drove out

The Molde alpinist has 1.02 seconds up to Sweden’s strong Sara Hector. She skidded a bit too much at the top, but the driving was solid anyway.

Katharina Truppe from Austria is surprisingly second and only 30/100 second behind the lead, while Italian Federica Brignone holds the bronze place. Mowinckel is six tenths behind a medal position.

Four years ago, Mowinckel surprised a lot by taking Olympic silver in both downhill and giant slalom. Since then, she has been through a long injury break and went over 600 days without competitions. In recent months, the 29-year-old has shown clear progress in several disciplines.

Mina Fürst Holtmann hung in well for a long time, but drove out in the end and slid down to the finish area in Yanqing. In the first instance, it was also for the US alpine queen Mikaela Shiffrin.

She disappeared early after a mistake at the top. Shiffrin lined up on the starting line as title defender and was among the big gold favorites.

Therese Tviberg and Thea Stjernesund are Norway’s two other alpinists in Monday’s clean.
