Norway’s curling couple hit back: – More ourselves today
– This was brilliant by Nedregotten and Skaslien, said NRK’s curling commentator Pål Thomassen.
– We were more ourselves today and this was much better than before. It has been very frustrating, says Skaslien to Discovery.
The Norwegian curling couple Kristin Moen Skaslien (36) and Magnus Nedregotten (31) got off to a dream start in the first round against the Australian duo Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt.
When the last Norwegian stone was set, Norway had as many as four stones as the best stone. That meant a 4-0 lead after the first half.
In the aftermath, it was Australia’s turn to have the last stone. Nedregotten had placed an almost perfect guard, and the Australians’ last stone was by no means good.
– Disaster stone for Australia, said Discovery commentator Thoralf Hognestad.
Norway took two new points and Skaslien and Nedregotten led all 6-0 after two rounds.
– It is a completely different team we see today, said expert commentator Lars Vågberg.
The Australians still wanted to make the match a little more exciting, and when Gill melted in the fifth half, they suddenly had three stones in the estate and the score was 7-4.
That tension was short-lived. Norway’s fresh flag bearer Skaslien delivered, and provided three points for Norway. Thus, Norway went up to 10-4. Then Australia gave in, and Norway took the victory.
After five games, Norway has two wins and three losses. Nedregotten and Skaslien have beaten Australia and the USA, while there were losses against Canada, the Czech Republic and Italy.
The next match is against China at 13 Saturday.
