Harald V. Hanssen was an eminent and very skilled shipping man of the old school.

Former shipping manager and director of the shipping companies Helge R. Myhre and Solvang ASA, Harald V. Hanssen, has died, aged 92.
Like many other young people from Stavanger with a desire to travel, he got a trainee position at SLA Ltd. in the 50’s. in London, which was owned by Stavanger man Knud Sømme.
During his stay at SL A., Hanssen became acquainted with Inge Steensland, who also worked at SLA. This was an acquaintance that would develop in the years to come.
Harald V. Hannsen returned to Stavanger after a few years in London. There he was employed by Helge R. Myhre. He became a key player in the construction of the shipping company Helge R. Myhre from a humble beginning in 1955, until 1980. Then the shipping company was sold to Kvaerner and moved to Oslo in January 1983.
In 1984, he was back in Stavanger as shipping company manager at Brødrene Olsen, which in the summer of this year had bought the LPG tanker «Kongsgas».
Hanssen continued as shipping company manager at Brødrene Olsen until 1987. Then he switched to the Inge Steensland-controlled Clipper Shipping A / S. They had then bought the LPG tanker “Clipper Gas”. Shortly afterwards, “Kongsgas” was also taken over.
In the years from 1987 until 1999, when Harald V. Hanssen retired and retired, Solvang had had a strong expansion. As many as 11 ships had been procured.
As a gesture from Inge Steensland to Harald V. Hanssen, Solvang’s last new building in 1999 was christened and given the name «Clipper Harald».
Harald V. Hanssen was an eminent and very skilled shipping man of the old school. Highly respected, frugal, accurate and with great detail knowledge.
