The United States reintroduces mercury emission restrictions

The requirement was in practice removed in May 2020 under US President Donald Trump, when a phrase was removed that limited emissions of these environmental toxins to what was strictly necessary.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now proposing to reintroduce restrictions on emissions of hazardous environmental emissions from coal and oil-fired power plants. This applies in particular to emissions of mercury, which damage the nervous system, especially among children.
