More healthcare waste during the pandemic – WHO demands better handling – News (Ekot)

  • The amount of medical waste has increased dramatically during the pandemic, including mouth guards, plastic aprons, test materials and vaccine syringes.

  • Researchers estimate that 3.4 billion mouth guards were used and thrown away every day during the first year of the pandemic.

  • Even before the pandemic, many countries had problems with their waste management, the World Health Organization states in a report released today.
