A local human rights organization in the state of Karen in eastern Myanmar warns that the year since the military coup risks becoming one of the bloodiest in the country’s history.

The devastation is almost total in several villages where the military has recently increasingly focused on destroying important buildings such as schools and medical clinics.

“Innocent villagers are killed and injured, the military even kills tambos to do as much damage as possible,” said Saw Nanda Hsue of the Karen Human Rights Group.
