Christian Eriksen returns to the Premier League and is ready to play in Brentford. – I can hardly wait to get started, says the Dane.

Christian Eriksen is ready for Brentford.

The London club confirmed the signing on Monday morning Twitter.

On Sunday, Sky Sports reported that Eriksen had passed the medical check at the club. They write that the midfielder has signed a contract that extends this season.

– We have used an incredible opportunity to bring a world-class player to Brentford, says the Premier League team’s Danish coach, Thomas Frank, to the club’s own website.

Eriksen is thus approaching a return to the football field after the dramatic episode where the midfielder suffered heart failure in the middle of Denmark’s match against Finland in the European Championships last summer.

– Hi, everyone, it’s Christian Eriksen. I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed for Brentford. I can hardly wait to get started, and hopefully I see you all very soon, says Eriksen.

The Dane had a contract with Inter, but was no longer allowed to play in Serie A. The 29-year-old had to have a defibrillator operated on, and players are not allowed to participate in the Italian top division.

His contract with Inter was thus terminated in December.

Assures the fans

In the Premier League, there is no similar rule as in Serie A. Eriksen also becomes the first player in the league to play with a defibrillator in his chest.

Brentford says that the process of recruiting Eriksen took time due to the medical situation, but that they are sure that he will have a big impact on the team for the rest of the season.

– I understand that many have questions about the process. But to respect Christian’s medical confidentiality, we will not go into detail. Brentford fans can be sure that we have conducted significant research to ensure that Christian is in the best possible shape, says the club’s football director, Phil Giles.

Eriksen has recently trained with Ajax’s youth team. He will travel to London in the next few days, but will not train with Brentford this week.

Will play in the World Cup

The Dane is well acquainted with the league after playing for Tottenham from 2013 to 2020. Among other things, he played for Spurs in the Champions League final in 2019 before he later played in the Europa League final and won league gold with Inter.

Eriksen has a stated goal of playing in the World Cup in Qatar for Denmark towards the end of 2022. His national team manager Kasper Hjulmand is happy with the news that the midfield star has found a new club.

– I’m glad that Christian has found a place where he wants to play, so that he can get started again on weekdays and take the next steps. I am happy on behalf of Christians and his family, says Hjulmand to Ritzau.
