They are the future of the United States. The Democrats thought they had control over them. Then came the election shock.

LAREDO, TEXAS (Aftenposten): Donald Trump lost the election, but advanced strongly in the United States’ largest minority group. It could destroy the Democrats’ dream of power.

The decision was not easy to make for Daniel Becerra (32).

Could he really give his support to a Republican? To the man who had referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists? To the one who wanted to build a wall to stop migrants from the south?

Becerra is a second-generation immigrant from Mexico and had always cheered on the Democrats. Like so many others in the border towns of southern Texas, he had gained his party affiliation with breast milk.

– To change sides … It felt a bit like a betrayal, says the father of four.
