Three seconds remained of the settlement and the Swedes got a penalty. Niklas Ekberg put it safely and the yellow and blue could release the cheers.

Twenty years of waiting time was over- Sweden was European Championship champion for the first time since 2002.

Solberg took over the Swedish national team in March 2019. In 2021, he took the team to World Cup silver, and now he became historic when he took European Championship gold.

The Swedes were ahead of the Spaniards through large parts of the first half, but just before the break, Spain snuck into the lead 13-12.

The Swedes’ goalkeeper Andreas Palicka was in great shape, saved on order and also scored a goal. It did not spread to the offensive game.

The yellow and blue went goalless in the last eight minutes of the first round.

The Spaniards had a grip on the Swedes in the first part of the second half, but the match continued in the even track.

There were some intense final minutes when the score was 26-26 just before the end.

A penalty kick was the last thing that happened in the match. It went to the finish, and the Swedes were European champions.
