Sverre Dahlen Aspenes won European Championship gold in biathlon when he first crossed the finish line after 10 kilometers of hunting start.
On the last shot, Aspenes came in first and shot only one boom on standing. Thus, he crossed the finish line to European Championship gold in solitary majesty.
The victory came three days after Aspenes won European Championship gold in the normal distance. He contented himself with only three booms in total under harsh conditions on the stand. It was 38.1 seconds apart for the Russian silver winner Peter Pashchenko.
Aspenes instantly hit four flashes on the last standing shot. The last shot did not sit, but it did not threaten victory.
Erlend Bjøntegaard was second best Norwegian in fourth place. He went out first on the hunt start as the winner of Friday’s sprint. On the way to the finish he noted six booms, while Johannes Dale and Håvard Bogetveit took the next two places as number five and six.
The women’s hunt starts at 13.30. Ragnhild Femsteinevik goes out first as the new European champion in sprint.
