The projectile was launched eastward towards the Sea of Japan, and it is the sixth time so far this year that North Korea launches a rocket instead of responding to US offers of calls.

The last time North Korea conducted as many test launches in one month was in 2019 after the meetings between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and then US President Donald Trump collapsed.
So far in January, North Korea has, among other things, conducted two test launches of ballistic missiles and launched what they call hypersonic missiles. Last week, they indicated that they were considering testing long-range missiles that could be equipped with nuclear charges.
