– It is not possible to increase the test capacity to handle the increase in infection

The Norwegian Directorate of Health writes this in a professional basis for the government.

The sharp increase in infection has led to test chaos at the test centers and reduced capacity in the laboratories that will analyze the test results.

Quarantine is being replaced by more frequent testing. The laboratories should be able to perform PCR analysis of 5 percent of the population per week, but report capacity problems.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health has therefore assessed whether it would have been possible to ease the pressure through the procurement of PCR analyzes through private actors. They believe such agreements are too late to deal with the current wave of infections.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health also writes whether a new assessment should be made as to whether all self-tests should be confirmed by PCR.
