Save the Children: 700 children detained after IS attacks on prisons in Syria

More than 100 IS fighters stormed the Kurdish-run prison in Hasakeh in the northeast of the country on Thursday and released many of the prisoners. Since then, the fighting has raged in the city.

Several children have already been killed or injured in the fighting, according to audio recordings from inside the prison that Save the Children and other organizations have received.

– What we hear from inside the Ghwayran prison is deeply disturbing. Reports that children have been killed or injured are tragic and outrageous, says the head of Save the Children’s activities in Syria, Sonia Khush.
