The tense security situation around the Baltic Sea has sparked discussions about Åland’s strategic importance and demilitarization.
County councilor Veronica Thörnroos says that the current situation does not directly affect the archipelago.
The archipelago has been demilitarized for almost 170 years, which means that there is and must not be a military presence on and near Åland, at least not in peacetime.
