The first report of the fire reached the emergency services at 00.24 on Tuesday night.
There is strong smoke development on site. The crews had no control at 2 o’clock, after the fire had lasted for more than an hour and a half.
Guard commander Bent Krister Osbakk at the 110 exchange Nordland tells NTB that they assume the fire started near a high-pressure washer in the laundry hall.
– All material is stored in another part of the building, so it was taken out and put into the extinguishing work. But we have not heard that there is control on the spot, says Osbakk.
Fire crews from Narvik also participate in the firefighting work.
Osbakk told the Narvik newspaper Fremover a little earlier that there are open flames with spread in the building. There is a high temperature under the roof and in the roof constructions.
The fire station in Ballangen is only two years old and was opened on December 13, 2019, writes Forwards.
