The European Parliament today voted against a proposal for stricter requirements for animal transport within the EU, which has led to great disappointment among animal welfare organizations.

The requirement for a maximum limit of eight hours for animal transport within the EU was voted down with the votes 372 no against 308 yes and 14 abstentions.

All Swedish EU parliamentarians voted in favor of the proposal.
