Therefore, Golden Globes are not sent

The award ceremony pays tribute to what is considered the best among films and TV series for 2021. This year, there will be neither an audience nor a red carpet.

The award ceremony will not be broadcast on TV. As an alternative, Golden Globes broadcasts on its own website and social media from kl. 03 night to Monday.

But it is not just the omicron variant that puts a damper on the mood. Many are now wondering whether actors and directors will receive this year’s awards at all.

The controversy surrounding the jury

In the past, the award ceremony has been marketed as “the biggest party of the year in Hollywood”, and was seen as an indicator of where the Oscar statuettes would end up.

The jury behind the Golden Globes Award, which consists of around 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), has nevertheless been described as irrelevant for a long time. But it was after Los Angeles Times investigation in 2021 that large parts of the industry distanced themselves.

It turned out that there were no black members on the jury. The HFPA was also criticized for not nominating any black actors or directors in the same year.

The organization’s finances have long been debated, especially the relationship between members and studios.

One of the revelations from the LA Times was that the producers behind the Netflix success “Emily in Paris”, sponsored 30 jurors with a trip to Paris. The series received two Golden Globes nominations.

In August, the HFPA stated that they have changed the guidelines and that it is now forbidden for members to accept gifts and the like.

Dropped by TV company and actors

In May last year, the television company NBC announced that they would not broadcast this year’s Golden Globes as a result of the revelations. The same month came the news that Tom Cruise would return its prices.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has taken several steps following the LA Times’ revelations. Among other things, they have admitted 21 new members and have stated that they are committed to diversity.
