  • Greece will continue to use coal power for a longer period than previously planned.

  • In 2019, the Greek government presented an ambitious plan that all Greek coal-fired power plants, with the exception of one, would close by 2023. But that will not be the case.

  • “The big reason is that the price of energy has gone up, especially on natural gas, and lignite can now compete again,” says electrical engineering professor Dimitrios Tsiamitros.
