In 2019, the Greek government presented an ambitious plan that all Greek coal-fired power plants, with the exception of one, would close by 2023. But that will not be the case.
“The big reason is that the price of energy has gone up, especially on natural gas, and lignite can now compete again,” says electrical engineering professor Dimitrios Tsiamitros.
