The first time the leadership job was discussed was in a private dinner at Knut Brundtland’s home, where Stoltenberg participated together with oil fund manager Nicolai Tangen, as well as a number of family members, writes warns.
Via his adviser Sissel Kruse Larsen, Jens Stoltenberg confirms in an SMS to Aftenposten that the position as head of Norges Bank was mentioned at the dinner.
He also states that in September 2021 he met Tangen on a plane on his way to the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Then the two had a conversation, where the position as central bank governor was one of the topics,” it says in the SMS.
It was in August last year that central bank governor Øystein Olsen announced that he would resign in February 2022.
Stoltenberg also informs the newspaper that he has discussed the position with Øystein Olsen.
