Allan Dahl Johansson had 1.44.81 as his best time on a lowland course earlier in the 1500 meters, but really shattered the time when the distance was covered during the European Championships in Heerenveen on Sunday.

With a time of 1.44.16, he went into a clear lead before the last two pairs. In the first of the last two pairs, world record holder Kjeld Nuis went, and the reigning Olympic champion entered a new best time when he clocked in at 1.43.60.

In the last pair, Thomas Krol went into second place and secured double Dutch in the exercise, while the bronze went to Allan Dahl Johansson.

It is Dahl Johansson’s first individual championship medal as a senior. He previously stood with four golds in the junior WC from 2017 and 2018.

– There are many who enter the Olympics who are not Europeans, but Krol and Nuis are gold favorites and medal candidates. You can now see that Allan is not far behind, says Hege Bøkko in the Viaplay studio after the exercise.

Peder Kongshaug (1.45,89) was number seven, while Kristian Ulekleiv (1.46,54) was number eleven.

It is only the third Norwegian medal on the women’s side in the European Championships throughout history. All three medals (team sprint in 2018 and 2022 and this year’s team pace) have come in team exercises.

Earlier in the championship, Norway has taken silver in team sprint and team pace for men, and bronze in team sprint for women. Individually, Hallgeir Engebråten took bronze in the 5000 meters on Saturday, while Allan Dahl Johansson went in for bronze in the 1500 meters.

Later on Sunday, there will be 1000 meters for women, 500 meters for men and a joint start for both sexes.
