Dream goals in a crazy top match: – An epic fight

Chelsea-Liverpool 2-2 (2-2)

– Truly an epic fight.

This is how Øyvind Alsaker summed up the battle between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Sadio Mané gave Liverpool a dream start. Then Mohamed Salah doubled the lead with a magnificent score. Chelsea seemed shaken, but in three magical minutes the home team scored two goals.

First, Mateo Kovacic kept up with a candidate for the season’s goal, while Christian Pulisic scored the team’s second.

Chelsea had to do without Romelu Lukaku, who was sent off after upsetting both supporters and Thomas Tuchel for an interview published earlier this week.

Liverpool had to do without Joël Matip, Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker and Jürgen Klopp, who have all delivered positive corona tests in recent days.

The case is updated with reactions from TV 2’s studio and Stamford Bridge!

Mané on both good and bad

Already after seven seconds, the evening could have been over for Liverpool star player Sadio Mané. The Senegalese raised his arm in a duel with César Azpilicueta, and the Chelsea defender went to the ground. When he got up you could clearly see the area around the eye was both yellow and blue.

– It is difficult to believe anything other than that he does this on purpose. He knows where the opponent is, but pulling up the red card here would have been quite expensive, but it is ugly, was the verdict of TV 2’s football expert Erik Thorstvedt.

Should Mané have been expelled here?

Mané escaped with a yellow card and a pipe concert from the Chelsea supporters. The pipe concert was to be even louder seven minutes later.

Seconds after Christian Pulisic had burned a great chance, Trevoh Chalobah kept up with terrible defensive play. Mané was merciless when he grabbed the ball and sent the guests in the lead.

– It’s a gift package. Chalobah has been messy the last few matches and here he is messing it up again, was the verdict of TV 2’s expert commentator Petter Myhre.

Mané sends Liverpool in the lead

15 minutes later, Mohamed Salah doubled the lead with a beautiful goal. The Egyptian humiliated Marcos Alonso before lifting the ball over Mendy.

Three magical Chelsea minutes

But Salah’s dream goal was not the best to be scored at Stamford Bridge this Sunday night. Mateo Kovacic had taken his place outside the penalty area when Chelsea had a free kick on the right.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher boxed the ball out to the 16-meter mark. Kovacic backed away and clinked on full volley. The Croatian’s shot went straight into the crossbar via the post. A completely crazy scoring.

– It’s not just an important goal! It is a class scoring, exclaimed Petter Myhre.

– He can try it 100 times in training tomorrow, but he will never make it, says Erik Thorstvedt.

Two minutes later it slammed behind Kelleher again. Pulisic was ruthless when he came alone with Liverpool’s last defense. The American put an end to that for a crazy game of football.

Pulisic equalizes just before the break

– One of the wildest rounds in Premier League history, were the words TV 2’s Premier League anchor Jon Hartvig Børrestad chose to use.

The drama continued into the second half

The second half continued at exactly the same pace. Both teams bombarded each other’s goals with solid chances.

Both Mendy and Kelleher showed their best side and kept up with several class saves.

Thus, there were no more goals in the settlement, which probably goes down in the history books as one of the real highlights of the 2020/2021 season.

One point is two too few for both Chelsea and Liverpool, who are desperately chasing superior Manchester City.
