May Tømmervold found the joy of training as an adult. In November, she became world champion in fire sports.

May Tømmervold is sitting in the living room at home in Tønsberg. It’s been over a month since she returned home from Fort Pierce, Florida, as the world champion in the Firefighter Combat Challenge (external link). The form of competition is fire sports, and it is six years since Tømmervold discovered the sport. On a daily basis, she is a fire constable in Tønsberg.

– I did not think I had a competitive instinct. But at a fire fair in Germany in 2015, I saw some ladies competing. Then I thought, ‘I can do this better. Next time I will be with “, says the 41-year-old.
