The last leader of the Soviet Union became a beggar

On television, Mikhail Gorbachev had announced that seven decades of communism were over.

But before that, the last leader of the Soviet Union had made a big mistake. His followers still blame him for that.

AFTENPOSTEN HISTORY: On August 19, 1991, conservative forces attempted a coup to stop Gorbachev’s liberal reforms. The Soviet leader was placed under house arrest on the Crimean peninsula, while the generals tried to seize power in Moscow.
