This earned Norway’s biggest sports stars

CAN SMILE ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK: Viktor Hovland was among the athletes in Norway with the highest income in 2020.

Kristian Nergaard, Magnus Carlsen and Viktor Hovland top the income list for the best active athletes in 2020.

It shows the tax lists for last year.

The list is based on VG’s selection of Norway’s one hundred best athletes in 2020.

For four straight years, the sick list Alexander Kristoff has topped the list of the Norwegian athletes with the highest income, but now it is the sailor Kristian Nergaard who is at the top of the active athletes.

The 59-year-old took his tenth World Cup title in January 2020 when he went to the top of the 5.5 meter World Cup in Australia with the crew Anders Pedersen and Swedish Johan Barne. The carrier is listed with NOK 34.6 million in income for 2020.

However, the high income does not come from sports, but from the job in Bama. Kristian Nergaard is the owner of the company together with his siblings Vibeke and Peder, as well as chairman of the board of the investment company Banan II.

WORLD CHAMPION: In sailing – and owner in Bama – Kristian Nergaard.

Nergaard had topped the list of Norway’s highest paid active athletes also in 2019, but the sailor was not listed there since he did not reach VG’s top 100 rating for that year.

At VG’s selection for 2020, Nergaard finished as number 80 after the World Cup gold in Australia.

Alexander Kristoff – who had topped the list for four straight years – has also been pushed off the podium, despite an income jump. In 2020, he had NOK 12.5 million in income, while the income was NOK 8.4 million in 2019.

In 2020, the Rogalendingen cycled for the UAE Team Emirates. The highlight of the season came when he won the opening stage of the Tour de France, and got to wear the yellow leader jersey. He kept it in one stage.
