Nakstad with encouragement to young people: Get BankID

Assistant Director of Health Espen Rostrup Nakstad encourages young people who do not have a BankID to obtain it, so that they have access to their own corona certificate.

Many 16-17-year-olds lack BankID, and thus do not get access to their corona certificate, or test results. The Norwegian Directorate of Health recommends that they obtain it.

– It is important to obtain a BankID so that you can use this actively. There are a number of 16–17-year-olds who want to use the cultural offer and other things in municipalities where a corona certificate can be introduced. Then you have to prepare for it, says assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad to NTB.

On Friday, the government opened up for municipalities to introduce requirements to show a corona certificate to be allowed in certain places.

To gain access to corona certificates and corona test results on helsenorge.no, you must have an electronic ID. The most used service is BankID, but it is also possible to use Buypass or Comfides.

According to the Norwegian Directorate of Health, many young people lack this, and thus they risk being excluded from places that require a corona certificate.

– We will now send information to the municipalities with advice on how to introduce a corona certificate, and what to keep in mind. We think this will happen eventually. 16-17-year-olds have a high level of digital competence and are probably able to arrange this, says Nakstad.

BankID is one of several electronic ID methods used to log in to helsenorge.no.

May take several days

When young people reach the age of 16, the parents no longer have access to the health information, and therefore they must log in to helsenorge.no themselves.

According to DNB it takes up to three days from ordering BankID to young people before you receive it. To be able to order it, the young person must be registered with a passport and physically show up at the bank.

Initially, 16-17-year-olds were only offered one dose of vaccine, but in August the government decided that they should also receive a second dose. NIPH has now asked the municipalities to prioritize this.

Many 16-17-year-olds also have a valid corona certificate after undergoing covid-19 disease.

Exceptions for the youngest

Children and young people under the age of 16 do not need to show a corona certificate where requirements are introduced for this, Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol stated at the press conference on Friday.

She also stated that the prerequisite for municipalities to start using the certificate is that they have made a decision on infection control measures.

– In addition, the municipalities must offer free quick tests to those who have not been vaccinated. The events and companies that will use the corona certificate use a check slip to check if the certificates are valid, she said.

People who do not have a smartphone or access to their own printer can order a corona certificate on paper from Helfo, either by calling them or sending them a letter in the mail.

– You will normally receive the corona certificate within 1-2 weeks, according to Helsenorge.
