Ruud wrote tennis history: The ace is in his head!

Casper Ruud was so happy when the semi-final place was secured in the ATP final.

(Casper Ruud-Andrej Rubljov 2-6, 7-5, 7-6) The Norwegian tennis adventure will never end. This is not least due to how strong Casper Ruud has become mentally.

This is a comment. The commentary expresses the writer’s attitude

There are not many sports that are as marginal as top-level tennis. When it really comes down to it, a few millimeters in a few points can be the difference between success and failure.

A first-time boy in the season final, where only eight players get a ticket to participate, could quickly have problems with his nerves. But Casper Ruud appears vaccinated against fear.

Before this Friday, he had never beaten Andrei Rublyov before – it was 4-0 to the opponent “head to head”.

But when the decisive set went to a tie break in Turin, and even more so in this, the statistics did not matter.

Just then Ruud found the little extra.

In the end, he just as easily put in an ace to puncture it all, when it was really needed. It secures a Norwegian semi-final place in the last tournament of the year.

Let’s take it all one more time: There are FOUR players left in the tournament that the whole circus has spent the year qualifying for – and one of them is Norwegian.

There is spin wild in world sports tennis.

It is also impressive how Casper Ruud for the second game in a row found the strength needed to fight back after losing the opening set clearly.

This season he has taken further steps. Ruud has a forehand and a staying power that can scare absolutely everyone, and he is becoming increasingly versatile.

If he develops the backhand a little more and gets even better when it goes fast, the gods must know where it can end.

But it is worth noting that this play-off does not go on the favorite surface gravel, and it is great to see how much more competitive he has become on hardcourt.

The tournament started with a clear defeat against world number one Novak Djokovic, before triumphs against Cameron Norrie and the aforementioned Russian.

Now it should be mentioned that Stefanos Tsitsipas withdrew due to a sore elbow, but that does not detract from the Norwegian’s achievement at all. Injuries are, after all, part of the sport.

In the semifinals, another Russian awaits, second-seeded Daniil Medvedev. He recently played Ruud doubles with in the show tournament Laver Cup. It did not go so well, but it was not a setting for the great seriousness either.

But now there is no play.

The two players have met twice before, in Australia last year and in Mallorca this year. Ruud has lost both matches, and still has the benefit of winning a set against Medvedev.

There is no doubt that the favorite in the upcoming semifinal is not Norwegian, but in the mental mode Ruud is in at the moment, he should certainly not be written off.

Casper Ruud has his most important ace placed between his ears.
