Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby was not an ordinary man. He was a condition.

At his best, Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby was one of the most expensive and entertaining personalities who has reached the level of society we call popular culture. Where other frontmen in the band only played a role on stage, Husby was one hundred percent turned on like Hank von Helvete around the clock.

In any case, he appeared that way.

The first time I saw him live, he managed to connect Bergen police chambers, hobbits and poorly hidden sexual undertones in a simple introduction to the Turboneger song “Bad Mongo”. I bare upper body, sweaty, made up and with the heroic space rocket under the final number.

Afterwards, he and the band witnessed the prelude to a fight in front of the small stage.

Some medical students had strayed into the wrong place.

The next time, the hall was full of such medical students, several with Happy Tom’s sailing hat. All with their hands high in the air for a song that was really about keyboardist Pål Pot Pamparius’ pizza shop. All delivered by a perfected Norwegian rock band, who delivered unique musicals. A band with a completely exceptional own radiance and aura, which many have tried to copy later. But never mastered.

Including the front figures of Hell.

Because after Hank von Helvete left Turboneger, they have never been the same band. And he has never been the same person. Even though he tried – and had a kind of nascent success, perhaps most in Sweden, under the modified artist name Hank von Hell. Apparently something that has not been very popular with the “owners” of Turboneger.

It was probably not popular that he tried to win the Melodi Grand Prix. Twice.

First a suitably misunderstood acoustic contribution as himself in 2013. Before returning in 2019, consistently mouth-watering and entertaining in his own unique way. Among other things, he renamed “Tel Aviv” to “Hell Aviv” and peppered the reporters with Donald Trump’s answers to everything they were wondering about.

This is how he continued to build the myth about himself. He played Jesus Christ in “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Som Hank. He was one of the judges in “Idol”, like Hank.

One of the times he actually took off his mask was when he put on a face of Cornelis Vreeswijk in the movie “Cornelis”.

The Swedes’ great troubadour, who struggled with his own challenges, was only 50 years old.

Hertugen, Hertis, Hank von Hell, Hank von Helvete and Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby would have turned fifty next year.
