Little did I know that the name of my Fantasiresor travel blog would become so current in 2020 when I chose it seven years ago. For the first time since I was a child, I have spent the entire year alone within the borders of the country. Fantasy travel has become my most important asset. Yes, the fact is that sometimes they even sell out. When I read about the trips I dreamed of earlier in the year, it’s hard not to feel naive.
But, anyway, some trips were made. Here they come.
Trips completed in 2020
Horse riding holidays in Ridled Sörmland
One adventure he had long dreamed of was renting a horse and riding along Ridled Sörmland. This spring, it came true. I rode for two days through the Sörmland countryside with my sisters and slept one night in a little red house in the countryside. The most dream trip of this year, of course.
4 st staycations i Stockholm
By stay in this case I mean a stay in a hotel in Stockholm. During the year I have stayed one night in the following hotels: the NOFO hotel in Södermalm, the Hasselbacken hotel in Djurgården, the Skytteholm hotel in Ekerö and the Downtown campsite in Brunkebergstorg. A heavenly and effective way to escape reality for a while.
Hiking in the mountains at the meeting of the three parks
It has become a kind of annual tradition to go on a mountain hike in Sweden together with my sister Martina. We walked through the three national parks Sarek, Stora sjöfallet and Padjelanta. Of course I had my own tent and kitchen. Promise a publication soon!
I discovered my two areas of origin: Ytterjärna and Hägersten
As most have done this year, I have also discovered much more about the areas of my home. Both in my hometown Järna, where I spent the first 18 years of my life, and in Axelsberg in Stockholm, where I lived in recent years. He has written a guide with my best tips for both Ytterjärna and Hägersten.
2nd city weekends
I’ve done a city weekend in Uppsala with one night at the Grand Hotel, and a weekend in Norrköping with one night at Norrköping Central Station. Two good cities to spend a weekend. It was really cool even though we were mostly outdoors.
One weekend I went with my new writing group (we are on Instagram with the name @ Penpals) to Arholma for a writing weekend at Agnes’s farm. It must be more archipelago this summer, I think. And more writing weekends!
5 trips to Gotland
The year ends as it began: in Gotland. I think most of the people who had a vacation home to go to have been happier this year. At least I have been. I spent several weeks at my parents’ house in North Gotland. The best was probably the week after the summer solstice, when the blue fire was blooming. Highly recommended!
Imagination journeys in other contexts
During the year, Fantasiresor has been on the Swedish radio show twice. Wallet in P1, a section of Homeless Podcast, has been a member of the jury in a writing contest and ended up on two top blog lists: Skyscanner List about the best in Scandinavia and Happy and alives list of women entrepreneurs. Funny, of course, considering it’s been an extremely weird low-key travel blog overall.
Some personal highlights in 2020
Of course, there are a number of less wonderful points to list after a year like this. But I choose to focus on what really went well. Maybe mostly for my own good.
- I have never been as healthy as I have been since Corona arrived. You could have wished for antibodies, but at the same time I was happy I didn’t even catch a cold.
- I set a goal that I wanted to read 20 books during the year, raised it to 30 this summer, and achieved it during the day. If you want to see what I read, it’s on my profile at Goodreads.
- I wrote a complete raw script for a novel during the spring term as part of the Creative Writing 2 course that I studied remotely. Now, during the fall and spring, I study continuation (BA course in creative writing) at half speed. Developing clearly. I wrote an essay as an entrance exam that I later sold to a previous client. It’s about The sweetness of doing nothing and it’s very corona current (although I’ve probably had time to change my mind since it was written in April).
- Perhaps the highlight of the year was probably my new assignment that I will start now in January 2021: web editor (or digital editor as it’s called in the contract) for Vagabond magazine. A temporary position that lasts the entire spring semester. Just perfect and perfect.
Things I’m longing for right now: Write my next blog post. It will be about all the travel dreams that I have and that I have finally begun to dare to hope for.
So long: happy new year dear fantasy traveler!
